ESG has already been driving this change on an industrial scale since 2016, and during the SCIRT project we went all out in our production to process more qualities and higher content of recycled materials.
Our goal seemed simple; produce yarns to the liking of brands, with a minimum of 50% post-consumer recycled content.
Many iterations and tests later, the time has come!
In the coming weeks, Bel&Bo, HNST, Petit Bateau and Xandres will launch their designs to which we contributed.
Each and every one locally produced clothing,
each and every one with a unique look.

HNST
For a new HNST jeans, we immediately set the bar high by aiming for 75% recycled cotton (both denim and white). Our limit used to be 50% recycled content; so we knew this was going to be trial and error.
To reach the final denim quality for HNST we have done 16 trials on 6 different batches of denim material in our production plant.
Final composition was reached; 75% recycled cotton (denim)
25% lyocell (Tencel) in yarn count NM1/13.
Next to denim pants, HNST also added a knitted sweater to their collection. For the sweater they wanted to work with white post-consumer recycled cotton.
We have done 9 trials on 4 different batches of recycled white cotton to create a yarn that contains 75% of it.
We added 25% lyocell (Tencel) for strength and recyclability and managed to spin in yarn count NM1/20.
HNST was recently acquired by Belgian clothing chain JBC. Check out their website here.
Petit Bateau
The request of Petit Bateau was a yarn with 50% recycled cotton and 50% GOTS cotton, with a yarn count of NM1/40 to create a t-shirt.Those who know a bit about (recycled) textiles are probably rubbing their hair right now. Because such fine yarn is no mean feat with such a high percentage of post-consumer recycled material.
After 8 trials on 5 different batches we were able to spin the yarn for their knitting applications in the requested yarn count.

Bel&Bo
Bel&Bo's wish was to receive a yarn from 50% recycled viscose + 50% lyocell (Tencel) in yarn count NM1/40.After 12 trials on 4 different batches of material we succeeded in spinning such a fine yarn!

Xandres
We tried many compositions for Xandres before deciding on the final one. On 10 different batches we've done in total 16 tests, most of them failed due to really high percentages of recycled wool.In the end, we went ahead with a yarn composition of
30% recycled wool + 70% recycled polyester (from PET bottles) with a yarn count of NM1/13.
Check out the stunning twp-piece they created on the Xandres website.
